Documentary Treatment (Pre-Production Pack)

1) Documentary Duration:

•  6-8 minutes

2) Character:

• The Documentary revolves around Roohullah Khan Orakzai, my great great grandfather who was born in Peshawar and lived in Alwar State during the pre-partition India period and was the Inspector General there as well as the head of games for the viceroy, Lord Mountbatten.

• The documentary also focuses on attempting to transport the viewer back into the time where my ancestor lived, the 1940s. It goes through multiple historic locations and sceneries of Peshawar to simulate the era. 

• He was an avid photographer 

• His favourite subjects were his dogs, for pictures and to spoil with the best.

• The influence of genetics on hobbies and interests

3) Documentary Style

• The documentary style will mainly have a mix of characteristics, not just one main focus, but majorly includes Poetic themes.

• I will be talking to the audience through narration and telling them the story

• It will be exposing my truth as a narrator as only a few of the events are documented 

• The main focus Cinematography-wise will be the old building so that I can try and transport the viewers back to 1940

• Extreme Wide Shots for sceneries and shots of architecture
• Close-up Shots for sceneries and shots of architecture 
• Extreme Closeup Shots for shots of the pictures that were taken by the subject
• Dynamic Shots for sceneries and shots of architecture 
• Vertical and Horizontal Angle Shots for sceneries and shots of architecture

5) Sound

• The main focus of the documentary will be on the quality of narration as it is an extremely visual documentary and the focus will be to emphasize the story

• I will be attempting to incorporate the background noises in certain situations, such as the sound of birds that can be heard in the distance as they fly over old buildings 

• I might incorporate light music in the background during breaks in the narration to bring focus to the scene
